05.11.2024
Ocean Energy Europe, the association promoting ocean energy in Europe and the world, kicked-off today the 11th edition of the Ocean Energy Europe Conference & Exhibition (OEE2024) in Aviemore, Scotland.
OEE CEO Rémi Gruet opened the conference today with an announcement of a new brand identity for the association, saying ‘After 11 years, we wanted to make a splash and refresh our look, but without changing our engagement/commitment to this sector. A blue logo for more blue economy, a sense of movement to match the sector’s energy and the one it produces. New look – same commitment.’
The opening session, titled ‘Flagship – Watts in the Water‘ showcased the latest achievements from the sector, remarking upon recent deployments: tidal developers Minesto with their tidal farm project in the Faroe Islands and ORPC featured their first European deployment (after several in the US) in Strangford Lough in Northern Ireland, and wave developer Wavepiston presented on their first full-scale energy collector installation on the Wavepiston string in Gran Canaria, Spain.
It also featured two recent big projects: AW-Energy presented its €19 million Horizon Europe funded project (ONDEP) to deploy a 2 MW wave energy array featuring four WaveRoller wave energy converters.
Normandie Hydroliennes presented on its Innovation Fund award for its tidal farm project in Raz-Blanchard composed of four 3 MW turbines, the most powerful tidal turbines to date, scheduled for 2028 which will produce 33.9 GWh yearly.
Thanks to the support of Platinum sponsor Team Scotland, OEE2024 brings together technology developers, utilities, project developers, supply chain, regional and national government agencies, trade associations, universities for a 2-day conference focusing on ocean energy’s latest news and updates.
