Looking beyond 2030: Driving innovation via the revised Renewable Energy Directive
Event overview
Date : 21/10/2021
Time : 10:30 - 12:00
This EUSEW session, co-organised by Ocean Energy Europe, EGEC and EUREC, explored the role of innovative renewables in supporting the transition towards climate neutrality. It highlighted solutions from ocean energy, geothermal and innovative PV or other technologies.
Recording
To reach climate neutrality by 2050, and to strengthen Europe’s global leadership in renewables, new innovations must be brought to market this decade. RES solutions such as geothermal, next generation PV, and ocean energy can then:
- diversify the post-2030 energy mix
- facilitate the fuel switch towards renewables which enables the decarbonisation of energy supply, including power generation, heating and cooling supply and the transport sector
- balance a grid with a very high penetration of variable generation
- create high-value jobs and contribute to Europe’s technological and industrial leadership in the green economy
