Public financing of ocean energy must be designed to create a 'pull' for private investment in a global market that could reach 350 Gigawatts by 2050, says a new report co-authored by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA) and Ocean Energy Europe (OEE). 2016 saw an unprecedented number of ocean energy deployments in Europe, according to a report published by Ocean Energy Europe. The report, entitled Ocean Energy Project Spotlight – Investing in Tidal & Wave Energy, highlights the key projects driving this new industrial sector forward.

The Ocean Energy Forum Strategic Roadmap was published in November at OEE2016 in Brussels. It is the main output of the Ocean Energy Forum, created by the European Commission in 2014.
